CLP India and Akshay Patra to build a new kitchen that will provide mid-day meals to 20,000 children in Telangana

Centralised kitchen to be constructed in Mahbubnagar District


Hyderabad / Veltoor, April 16, 2019: CLP India, one of the largest foreign investors in the Indian Power sector signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Akshay Patra Foundation (TAPF) to set up a Centralised Kitchen in Telangana to provide mid-day meals to 20,000 children on daily basis. In line with Government’s Mid-Day Meal Scheme that is aimed to enhance enrollment and retention in government schools while also focusing on improving nutritional levels among children, the kitchen will serve students of identified schools and ‘anganwadis’ in Ammapur, Muthyalampalle, Varna, Perur among other areas of the district. The kitchen is expected to be constructed in Nawabpet, Mahbubnagar district, Telangana, by August 2019.

Under the agreement, CLP will fund the design and construction of the kitchen, whereas TAPF will be responsible for the day to day operations and supply of wholesome and well-balanced nutritious meals to the schools and anganwadis. TAPF will attempt to employ the staff for the kitchen from the communities around the kitchen.

The kitchen in Mahbubnagar will be our second venture with TAPF. We have partnered for provision of 5000 meals a day for more than 2 years in Hubli, Karnataka. We feel pride in partnering with TAPF to meaningfully serve and empower the communities around our plants.”

The company’s contributions made through community investment initiatives are mainly focused on enhancing health & sanitation facilities; education and skill building, and infrastructure development, with special attention to youth and women empowerment. The initiatives linked to its Veltoor Solar Power plant in the state are under the ‘Suryodayam’ umbrella. Under this, the company has been working on a structured development plan. In this water deficient region, initiatives have been undertaken to ensure water security like provision of clean drinking water for catchment villages by installing RO plants and borewell and aquifer recharge. Further, a mobile van catering to the healthcare needs of the populace are deployed.

The CLP India Scholarship scheme provides financial assistance to bright and needy students. The company is also providing select schools with support for digital study content and infrastructure.
