Biodiversity

Conserving the variety of life on earth by recognising the importance of biodiversity preservation is critical to human life with factors such as habitat loss, degradation, and various kinds of pollution seriously threatening it. As an environmental steward, Apraava is deeply committed to promoting, enhancing, and restoring the existing biodiversity within all its operational boundaries.

We at Apraava Energy, are aware of the significance of rich biodiversity on long-term sustainability. As part of our effort to protect biodiversity, we have signed up to the India Business & Biodiversity Initiative (IBBI). It serves as a national platform for businesses and their stakeholders to foster dialogue sharing and learning, ultimately leading to mainstreaming of sustainable management of biological diversity into businesses.

Our Biodiversity Conservation Goals include:

  • Making positive contributions to the conservation of flora and fauna in areas near Apraava Energy’s sites
  • Using advanced pollution control technologies and environmental practices to maintain air and water quality in surroundings that allow the existing ecosystem to thrive
  • Increasing the green quotient in and around assets through ongoing tree plantation, landscape development, and vegetation development
  • As part of our plan to strengthen biodiversity stewardship, a biodiversity roadmap for the future is in the works.

Upon evaluation of its operational projects, Apraava Energy reaffirms that none of its sites are located in protected areas or close to any protected areas with high biodiversity value. The organisation’s EIA and ESIA studies show that no IUCN Red List species and national conservation list species presently reside or have a habitat within or adjacent to its areas of operations.

Over the years, Apraava Energy has been undertaking effective steps around its operations towards conserving biodiversity. These include, afforestation drive, tree plantation, awareness workshops, biodiversity survey, protecting and conserving endangered species etc.

Apraava’s Jhajjar Power Limited plant has conducted a baseline biodiversity survey guided by the principles of India Business & Biodiversity Initiative (IBBI), which will be replicated for other eco-sensitive Apraava Energy sites in the future. Apraava Energy plans to develop a biodiversity roadmap in the future to improve its biodiversity strategy.

Sloth bears are listed as a vulnerable species as per the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species due to habitat loss and degradation. Therefore, Apraava Energy conducted a plantation drive in 2021 wherein 28,670 trees of the planned 30,000 were planted at the periphery of Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary in Rajasthan to protect the habitat for sloth bears. In FY 2023-24, Apraava Energy has taken initiative to plant 58,822 saplings across different sites.
