Solar electrification initiative for the community
Apraava Energy completed a solar electrification project to meet the energy needs of over 3500 households around its Satpura Transco Private Ltd (STPL) transmission project in Madhya Pradesh. The company implemented the project in partnership with SELCO Foundation in 14 villages around Seoni Malwa in Hoshangabad district and Ashta in Sehore district. The villagers were earlier facing multiple challenges due to inconsistent power supply. These included unsafe conditions for women and children to step out of their home after sunset; non-functional streetlights; thefts; lack of road safety for drivers; limited social gatherings; power cuts in schools and anganwadis and lack of modern teaching technologies for students.
To resolve these issues, under the project, solar streetlights were set up in the common areas of the villages. Basic appliances such as fans and lights in anganwadis were powered by solar energy. Schools and anganwadis were made smarter by equipping them with digital learning tools and digital content for kids. The teachers in anganwadis and schools have been trained in handling these digital tools. The solutions implemented under the initiative generate approximately 13.9 MWh/year of solar power and lead to a reduction in carbon emissions to the tune of approximately 11.2 tonnes per year.
Creating hunger for education with centralised kitchen initiative in schools of Assam
Basis a detailed assessment, high dropouts and low enrolments were observed in the schools of Jorhat, Assam. To address this issue, The Akshaya Patra Foundation and Apraava Energy, along with other partners, came together to set up a centralised mid-day meal kitchen that will serve nutritious meals to 27,000 children daily in 450 governments schools. It will ensure provision of healthy balanced meals to children and help them concentrate on learning. The menus are curated to suit the local palate significantly to meet the daily nutritional requirements of a child.
Apraava Energy has supported the design and construction of the kitchen premises and arrangement of necessary equipment along with provision of distribution vehicles.
“The kitchen in Jorhat will be our third venture with The Akshay Patra Foundation. It is located close to our transmission asset, Kohima Mariani Transmission Limited (KMTL). The nutritious meals provided by the kitchen will help school children focus better during classroom learning.” - Dr. Priyesh Modi, Head – Corporate Social Responsibility, Apraava Energy
When our future generations are powered with proper nourishment, they will be motivated to work hard and achieve their goals.
