About the Project
Jhajjar Power Limited (JPL), Apraava Energy’s wholly-owned subsidiary, is one of India’s first supercritical coal-fired plants. The 1,320 MW power project located in the Jhajjar district of Haryana has been commercially operational since mid-2012. The plant delivers 90% of its output to the State of Haryana and the remaining capacity to Tata Power Trading Company Limited.
JPL is the first plant in the National Capital Region (NCR) to have installed Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) technology with the objective of reducing air pollution and contributing to a healthy environment around the plant and its nearby regions. Apraava Energy began installation of FGD during the construction of the plant in 2012 even before the environment norms came into effect in 2015.
Project Overview
Our impact
Presently, JPL has around 3.11 Lakh trees in its project boundary, maintained by a dedicated horticulture team that focuses on enriching the green cover around the site.
JPL is a ‘Zero Liquid Discharge’ plant. The wastewater it generates is treated and reused within the plant premises for dust suppression, horticulture, cleaning and other suitable purposes. The organization has consistently been achieving specific water consumption below 2.3 m3/MWh, one of the best in the industry.

Our stories of Impact
Udyogini
With several socio-economic and cultural barriers, Project Udyogini in partnership with Humana People to People India was born. The primary objective of this initiative to foster an entrepreneurial ecosystem and economic security to cover rural women in Jhajjar.
So far, Udyogini project helped form and co-opt over 239 Self Help Groups (SHG) across 12 villages. Several women have successfully completed their Entrepreneurial Development training, linked to social security schemes, and established and scaled-up micro and home-based enterprises.
Wrestling Academy
Apraava Energy’s sports programme in Jhajjar has grown and evolved over the years, during which the company has established robust sports infrastructure in catchment villages.
The academy has made champions who currently represent the nation on the global stage and win medals. The number of wrestlers training at the Apraava-supported Krishan Akhara, Khanpur Khurd village at Jhajjar has increased exponentially across the years. The academy, with its gender-agnostic approach, offers high quality training in wrestling by certified trainers, for both girls and boys at the village level. It continues to encourage local communities to enroll interested girls into the training programme.
Crop Residue Burning
CII Foundation and Apraava are working closely on the ground to address the issues of air pollution with the farmers to be aware, train, and adopt sustainable farm practices. This is a multi-stakeholder project by engaging each group of society, government agencies, and technical partners together.
Apraava Energy works closely on the ground to address the issues of air pollution by implementing Crop Residue Management programme in four districts of Haryana. The programme spreads awareness on ‘zero stubble burning approach’ by working closely with farmers’ clubs and aiming to bring about behavioural changes and motivates them to adopt technological tools.
